It's well known that Microsoft's Visual Studio compiler does not support C99, and it looks like they have no plans to support it.. However, the compiler does include some cherry picked features such as variadic macros and long long - see the quotes in this answer:. As for C99 only partly included in Visual Studio, I guess this is a question of priorities. Most interesting C99 features are already present in C++ (inlining, variable declaration anywhere, // comments, etc.) and probably already usable in C in Visual Studio (If only doing C code within the C++ compiler).

Sep 21, 2006 · Hi, Due to the fantastic debugger and Intellisense technology Visual studio provides, I am now attempting to write my C code in VS.Net 2005. I was able to compile C files, but the most annoying thing is that I cannot declare locals in "for" loops.
