Sep 05, 2013 · Ok - so Fusion 5 and Retina Display was poor. Either everything was tiny, or a manual workaround made the mouse movements in Win7 practically unusable and also certain icons still remained tiny in certain places within Fusion.

I am hoping that Retina support in VMware and Parallels simply lets us set higher resolutions inside the VM than the OS X host resolution. I'd like a 1680x1050 w7 VM running on my OSX 1440x900 HiDPI desktop windowed.

On my 27″ iMac, that meant the macOS VM thought it was running at (for example) 2560×1600 instead of a retina resolution of 1280×800. VMware even warns you of this in their Knowledge Base: Mac OS X running in a virtual machine is limited to an approximate resolution of 2560 x 1600, and treats the display as a standard DPI device.
