Aug 12, 2011 · Apologies in advance if this question has been asked 1,000 times over - I could not seem to find a simple yes/no answer. The switches in our ESXi 4 environment are Extreme Networks and do not support Cisco's proprietary protocol CDP.

With Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP), vSphere administrators can determine which physical switch port connects to a given vSphere distributed switch. When LLDP is enabled for a particular distributed switch, you can view properties of the physical switch (such as chassis ID, system name and description, and device capabilities) from the vSphere Client.

Apr 22, 2008 · Thanks for the heads up! I cannot find anyway to set this via the SDK. Also, a "grep -iR cdp *" inside the remote cli directory does not reveal anything either, so it looks like this cannot be performed remotely and requires the console. This would indicate that ESXi does not support CDP. Can anyone verify this?
