Mar 21, 2018 · I set up VMWare Workstation (free) at home this weekend, and have a Windows 7 Pro VM installed. That's all running quite well. The one limitation that I've run into is that I can't pass my GPU on my host through to the guest VM, so any graphical stuff on the VM is handled by my CPU.

VirtualBox (another VM, generally very good) has PCI passthrough, with some very picky set-up requirements, but the fact that no-one has blogged about success in using it for CUDA seems to speak for itself. nvidia-docker does support docker CUDA passthough for docker on Linux (useful for running in AWS/etc), but not currently for docker on windows.

Mar 07, 2017 · No you can't do that on VMware Workstation. VMDirectPath IO / PCI Passthrough is only supported on vSphere. In this case the host OS needs to have special support for passing through the PCI card and a non specialized OS like Windows or Linux sadly has no support for that.
