The current version of OpenSolaris includes Xorg 7.4, but the VMWare Tools only include drivers for up to XOrg 7.1. I see that Linux guests enjoy support for XOrg up to 7.5, so the code must be available, just needs a recompile for OpenSolaris.

VMware and Sun have announced that full support for Solaris will be added in future versions of VMware products. In the meantime, the existing products can be made to work, but there are a few issues.

Mar 17, 2012 · OpenSolaris and Nexenta Solaris branches are not officially supported by VMWare. They likely will work fine (I've got Nexenta on mine) but there is no official support for them. So if that is a requirement for you, you'll either need to move to "real" Oracle Solaris or find an alternative strategy.
