Feb 02, 2012 · It is my understanding that ESX 4 supports usb to the VM's. I also understand that VMotion doesn't support the VM's that use usb dongles. I plugged a usb dongle into the ESX 4 host, however I do not see where I need to configure the VM's to use the usb dongle.

Oct 07, 2008 · We have numerous USB licensing mechanisms here and most of them don't support Vmware for one ridiculous reason or another. Their software components knows its a Vmware MAC address so a work-around is to use your own MAC address from a dead NIC, use a $1 NIC or I think there is an internet address that lists dead NIC addresses.

A customer of ours would like to deploy our software in a virtual environment. I know that passthrough USB is supported in VMware Workstation 6.5 but I'm not clear about its support in ESX/ESXi.
