Feb 06, 2019 · I need Ableton to support developers that want to develop new plugins. ATM you can't write a new plugin for Ableton unless you happened to download the VST3 SDK while it was still available. It's inexcusable that Ableton has shunned VST3 for so long. It's a necessary development in vst's and the new standard has been available for years now.

Running both VST2 and VST3 versions of Waves plug-ins in the same SONAR session is currently not supported by Waves. May 18, 2018 · I think there are some technical benefits (although many depend on the host to fully leverage them) but for me the reason is purely pragmatic, there are some plugin developers that are moving away from VST2 support, particularly on Mac, and VST3 is the only cross platform format those developers (eg Steinberg, Cakewalk) support now.
