For games like this, you can turn off 720p and 1080i in your display settings. If the game supports 1080p, this will force it to display at that resolution. However: if a game supports both 720p and 1080p, and defaults to 720p even when 1080p is selected, there is usually a reason for that.

Some games on the PS3 scale and will run in 1080P (upcaled) but if you force 1080P in video settings and uncheck 720P then a lot of games will run in SD resolution instead. I believe most games have scaling now but this was the case in the past, and likely still is the case for a few games.

Back on the ps3 despite 1080p hdtvs being widely available, it wasn't powerful enough to push beyond 720 for most games. Is that the same case for the ps4? It was powerful enough to give us 1080p60 if the developers had priority it, but they decided to priority graphical fidelity instead.

Yeah, most PS3 games don't really let you play in 1080P, even though some say 1080P on the back of the box. Some do though, I remember MGS4 did, and oddly enough, I think Blops does (or at least it doesn't pop up a thing saying the TV resolution changed liked how it does in every other case).

Mar 21, 2008 · There are a lot of games that are 1080p by default on the ps3, a few that come to mind is Tekken 5 Dark ressurection, everyday shooter and others, and the 360 does not have 1080p games, it upscales games to 1080 but does not support it by default, there is a difference, i know that Gran Turismo 5: prologue is also in 1080p
