Is there anybody, who is able to install Ubuntu 12.04 or 14.04 (64bit) on Lenovo Thinkpad T440p and get fully functional NVIDIA Optimus? This laptop model is certified by Canonical to be fully supported by Ubuntu, but install Ubuntu 14.04 is nearly impossible, due to the fact, that 14.04 desktop ISO image crash during initial boot. Any help?

There’s no need to fiddle with third-party software sources, PPAs, downloadable Deb packages or anything of the sort. Instead, users just need to enable a proprietary Ubuntu software source (that Canonical maintains), install some packages, and restart your system.

This could possibly be due to Nvidia Optimus, which has been problematic with Linux, since Nvidia does not support Optimus on Linux. Perhaps you could try installing Ubuntu 12.04 from the alternate install CD. this is a text based installer that should bypass any graphics related problems.

Jun 07, 2018 · It does what it says: you can change modes in seconds, no reboot, no initramfs rebuild. On my Thinkpad P50 (quadro M1000M, ubuntu 18.04) it works fine; the nvidia card is really powered off. It seems this works due to the advancements in the ubuntu nvidia package supporting multi-dispatch.
