Sep 23, 2008 · So, long story short, there is NOTHING really wrong with Win98, the problem is that VirtualBox's emulated BIOS doesn't fully match up with what Win98 expects a real ACPI BIOS to look like, so by default Win98 will not install ACPI support (and unfortunately, the older APM support doesn't handle CPU IDLE, so we get problems).

The number of users know to run 9x/ME stably with > 1 GiB RAM grows steadly with passing time, even if the total user number dwindles much faster (but those that remain using this OS-family do so because they love it).

Well that's enough information. I've experimented a bit with this and may just have to toss in the towel. Although the various notes I've read indicate that you "should" be able to create a drive of up to ~32 MB, as soon as I go past ~5,000 MB Win98 fails to fully come up, so apparently, RAM drives are not only poorly supported, they're now pretty much broken.
