I have one of those as well. Their is no bidirectional support on the IP printing protocol (LPR or HPs RAW/port 9000), thusly this information is retrieved from the printer by SNMP. To enable bi-directional support you need to install SNMP on your server, and also, if you are concerned about security, at least change the SNMP comminity names.

Oct 26, 2012 · Yet, after the printer has been created, if you go and re-enable SNMP for that very same printer on the print server, then it DOES report the status messages just fine. snmp read community is: public. Otherwise, all other printers we have in use on our 2008 R2 SP1 server do not exhibit the issue you're describing.

Jul 08, 2011 · In the properties of all printers, bidirectional printing is dimmed out so we can't turn it on. Our other 2 citrix servers running Presentation Server 4.5 on Windows Server 2003 allow bidirectional printing. The difference in speed is night and day. On the 2003 servers when users print labels they FLY out of the printers.
