Dec 14, 2015 · While strictly not SCCM related, I would like to know how to enable 8.3 short file name support to Windows 7 (both x86 and x64). I am aware of the commands like fsutil.exe behavior set disable8dot3 0 and registry keys like NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation, however these will only give short names to files & directories created after the command is run and then rebooted.

Aug 19, 2017 · Well, I sent details for root cause of this issue (ie.,. 256/260 characters limit for file path on Windows Share), and recommended them to try to keep short names, it didn't made any affect. I may need to check manager to shorten the folders names, avoid deep nesting of folders (subfolders), maintain shorten names (like Documents -> Docs) etc.
