However, you may consider deploying Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 (free edition) and run your Windows Server 208 R2 Standard Edition as a VM on top of Hyper-V Server 2008 R2. Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 DOES include clustering, so you can configure your VMs to be highly available.

That is correct. Windows 2008R2 Standard Edition does not support Failover cluster. The failover cluster doesn't even show up in the list of features. I just checked it. Only Ent and Datacenter supports it.

Dec 05, 2017 · If it's not possible to create a cluster on Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition, why is this feature incorporated with this version of Windows Server? Actually I tried to create a cluster with 2 Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition servers. SP1 is also installed into one of the servers.
