Oct 26, 2011 · It's a bad idea to restore an image made from HDD to an SSD, and vice versa. We might experience unexpected issue. Apparently it can cause problems. So, as long as you are going from SSD to SSD then you should be fine. Note: You should use the same or bigger capacity SSD to backup.

The current system however is not very fast during Windows start up, that's why I want to move it to the SSD and boot from that instead. If you have a working OS install that you can use, why not take a new backup image of it and restore it back to the SSD using the full disk retore option? That should be relatively easy to do.

Whether Macrium would recognize the unallocated space and restore the image. In my case when I left it unallocated, Macrium did not show up this SSD to restore the image on this SSD.
