May 06, 2005 · Did read somewhere that MS disabled sound by default in Windows Server 2003. Check in services if Windows Audio is started. Checked that; MS say Sound is enabled by default only on Windows Server 2003 Standard, Enterprise, Web and DAta Centre its disabled by default.

Nov 17, 2014 · Hi! I'm sure this is a newbie question but I need to put a sound card in our 2012 R2 server because one of the virtual machines on it is an RDP server and I wanted to make sure my thought process was correct that as long as it has a windows 8 driver it should work fine.

If you really need an internal sound card, your best bet is going to be one of those Creative or ASUS sound cards w/ Vista drivers. Very few vendors, if any, are going to pay the expense for official WHQL driver certification for Windows Server when the number of potential users is a few thousand at most.
