Windows XP does indeed natively support some SCSI Controllers and Devices, just not the BusLogic SCSI Adapter that VMware uses! Yet it is entirely possible to install an XP guest on a virtual SCSI disk, provided you have the proper driver.

Nov 03, 2011 · The problem is that your computer has an SATA hard drive which XP, being a 10 year old OS, does not natively support. This problem can probably be solved but there will almost certainly be others, such as the difficulty or inability to find XP compatible drivers.
