Dec 01, 2004 · It's not so much SATA itself as it is the SATA controller that you need drivers for. Different controllers need different drivers. I'm not sure if Windows XP includes any SATA controller drivers, but I know for mine it wasn't there (Silicon Image) so I needed a floppy.

Both these drives are going to be SATA, because that's what I have to use, along with an IDE DVD drive. The motherboard is an ASRockN68C-GS FX. XP will probably be thrown on and updated, with some kind of virus protection just in case.
