Nov 09, 2014 · The root of this is Windows XP x86 is MBR only meaning that the limitation is to do with MBR. Disks exceeding 2TB must use GPT which extends the limit significantly, however Windows XP does not have this support currently. A 32 bit version of windows generally will only see the protective MBR on a GPT disk.

Since Windows XP only supports MBR partition tables and they support a maximum of 4 billion sectors, with a 512 byte sector size you can only partition the first 2 TB of a drive. With a 4096 byte sector size, MBR partitions can use up to 16 TB of a drive.
