Apr 12, 2013 · No, WEP does work. Win8 just won’t configure automatically for it. Go into network settings, click on Connect to a Network, click on Configure manually. Then type in the SSID, set the type to WEP, type in the password and connect.

Jul 10, 2010 · the wireless router does not care what operating system you are using---all it wants is the correct string of bytes for the passphrase. You have to set the encryption type in any system---in Windows it may be hidden.

Dec 31, 2006 · Than, when I was playing with D-Link setup, it spelled it out to me that turning WEP security "on" will switch to G due to security not beeing supported in pre-N. I'm not making this up. As soon as I disabled security setting, wireless network connection switched to 300 Mbps. When I enable it, goes back to 54 Mbps.
