Solved: According to the release notes, then to support all AP's in 8.3.140.0, a Supplementary AP Bundle Image needs to be installed additionally on the WiSM2's (same goes for 2504 & 5508 WLCs). In the release notes found here:

WISM2 is supported on SXJ release. It Doesn't work on any version below. Note. Sup 720 software version 12.2.(33)SXJ is the minimum software required for operation with the WiSM2 controller. Question. After upgrading IOS from 12.2(18)SXF7 to 12.2(33)SXJ. The ports and port channel configuration for the WiSM doesn't support.
