Apr 01, 2012 · I've read in various discussions from 3-4 years ago that there first was no build of WiX to support 64-bit custom actions, then there was a special Wix35_x64.msi, then that was withdrawn, with the explanation that 32-bit WiX could build 64-bit installers. Does WiX 3.5 (or 3.6?) support building 64-bit DLLs for inclusion in 64-bit installers?

May 04, 2011 · WiX projects can build 64-bit MSI files (via 64-bit build targets). Build process renames MSI files to indicate target platforms and copies them to a separate MSI folder under the WiX project (in a post-build event). Detect and use the original application folder during upgrades.

This helped me -- I couldn't get the Wix installer project to build an x64 release no matter what I tried from the GUI. I opened the project file in Notepad and saw there were several duplicate entries. Once I deleted the duplicate entries for x64 and x86, I reopened project and was able to build a 64 bit installer – user1532208 Mar 25 at 15:13
