Dec 18, 2014 · I can only tell you that Terran Conflict has an awful default controller setup. I'm in a similar boat. I have to use controllers due to an injury so I'm looking into games that play with them. What's odd is that Terran Conflict is not listed as having controller support on the steam store but Albion Prelude is.

I've been playing X3 lately and started trying to play it with my XBox 360 Controller. For the most part, this works fine. The buttons, the d-pad, the shoulder triggers, and the left joystick all work fine.

I'll leave the others to comment on the controller layout as I still just use a mouse and keyboard (saving up for a decent stick), though as far as the learning curve goes make sure you do the flight school and check out Apricot Mapping Service for a wide range of guides and tips. The "X3 Handbook" is probably a good start as most of what it's talking about applies to X3AP as well as X3R and X3TC.
