Xft support also means subpixel rendering ("cleartype" in microsoftland) support. For people who have LCDs, this is nice. Makes fonts sharper on LCD displays, not about blurring them. Of course, being an emacs user with an lcd, I'd been running the cvs branch with xft support for ages anyway. It's nice its in the trunk emacs now though.
