Re: XP doesn't support 4 GB RAM! basalone - apparently you have a bad stick of ram on your hands. as noted, a 32 bit OS will not reconcile 4gb of ram. it will show 3gb and change. however, having more than 3gb should NOT cause a bsod.

Dec 15, 2008 · If you can get 4GB for a slightly higher price than 2GB when buying RAM for an XP system, go for it. XP will recognize up 3.75GB of ram befor it starts to take it way to allocate to system resources. One of my machines has 4x1GB sticks. XP on that machine makes available 2.75GB of that RAM to be accessed by a single thread call.

However it says Windows XP needs to use some address space for your hardware, so only "4GB - address space reserved" will be usable in the operating system.
