Mid Zyra has tons of plant presence in lane but is almost nonexistent while teamfighting. Sometimes none of her plants survive, even the ulted ones. A way to buff mid zyra without touching support zyra is to give her scaling on units killed (like veigar, sion, nasus) Something like: every 100 units killed, w gets another max ammo count.

The recent change to the plant ai has taken zyra completely out of mid lane. She is no longer viable as an apc. It's extremely frustrating that Riot has done this since in the mage update, they promised that they would always balance her with mid lane in mind since the majority of zyra mains like playing her mid.

Jun 04, 2019 · Zyra is a great support pick for solo queue, first of all she can dominate the lane alone, making the life of your adc way easier and the enemy adc a hell, her plant's attack can proc Arcane Comet, Electrocute and Frostfang allowing her to deal a good damage and make gold at a safe distance.

Mar 29, 2015 · Keep in mind that Zyra wasn't designed to be a support champion. She was designed to be mid-laner mage. People just started finding her useful in a support role once the new support items came out in season 4. Her biggest weakness, though, is her lack of mobility and early on, her snare just doesn't last very long.

In which case its best to just pick someone like Lux, or I suppose as OP is suggesting, Zyra as a harassing/kill support.
