Tension only spring elements in ABAQUS , how to do it? ... *NO COMPRESSION This should make sure that only tension is permitted in the material - I have only tried this with truss elements rather than springs but I believe it should work. Have a look at section 21.2.2 of the user's manual for more details on this.

Sep 15, 2009 · So to make a compression-only support in MAPDL (sorry, using new names of ANSYS products here), you need to create a copy of the face you want to apply the load to, and mesh it with target elements with the amesh command, and then mesh the flexible body face with the proper contact elements (once again, using amesh).
