I think that Ardour2 is pretty much the same as Ardour 0.99 right now as far as Midi controllers are concerned. I just mentioned OSC because once the developers start adding support for MIDI tracks, I’m sure OSC will be something they consider.

Previously such stuff was impossible with standard MIDI, so in DAWs like FL Studio or LMMS only the internal plug-ins could use such features, using DAW-specific internal APIs. What is possible? Ardour 2.X does not record/play/edit MIDI data, but can still be controlled by a wide variety of MIDI devices. It can receive and send MIDI Machine Control (MMC), act as a master or slave for MTC, will respond to MIDI Song Position Pointer (SPP) messages, and can use the full range of MIDI Continuous Controller (including NRPN) and Note On/Off messages in a very flexible manner.

Sep 29, 2018 · Ok I installed it and now ajsmidid and ardour show in the midi tab, but I still cannot get my controller to work in ardour. When I add a plugin, Calf-MonoSynth on a midi track , ardour does not respond to my controller–Akai MPK mini.
