How can I enable mp4/h264 as an output option in Fedora Linux?

    https://blender.stackexchange.com/questions/47166/how-can-i-enable-mp4-h264-as-an-output-option-in-fedora-linux/47310
For those of you landing here from google, it seems that the fedora packaged blender does not have ffmpeg support compiled in. As a workaround, you can always do as @UncleSnail suggested and use the buildbot precompile and run it on its own. If you know of an rpm offering of blender that has ffmpeg support…

[Sequencer] FFMPEG & Blender - Blender.org

Aug 11, 2008 · These libraries extend FFMPEG to support ac3, mp3, x264, and xvid. If you plan on just using the AVI Codec output feature, then you may not need to build these into FFMPEG; however, keep in mind that FFMPEG can multiplex audio with your video output. The AVI Codec option cannot do that, so FFMPEG is a more complete video-out solution.

FFMPEG: FFPLAY binary not getting generated on compilation

    https://stackoverflow.com/questions/20422051/ffmpeg-ffplay-binary-not-getting-generated-on-compilation
2.8 was derived from the master branch on 2015-09-05. Releases do not get any additional features or other major updates: only the occasional security or bugfix backport. So you're missing 19 months of updates which is a whole different epoch in FFmpeg time. If it works for you that's fine, but in no way is it not old. – llogan Apr 3 '17 at 16:37

Jul 10, 2006 · Right now I don't have FFMPEG compiled, I'm going to do it tonight if I get the time, but this time I'm going to compile and pack it as a debian file, much easier to share with other Ubuntu Dapper users. I will also do the same thing with x264 and Blender CVS. Hopefully I will be able to share it to the world during this week.

    https://askubuntu.com/questions/423230/how-to-compile-ffmpeg-with-x265-support
The guide you linked to is currently missing necessary instructions to compile x265 support for ffmpeg, so there is no wonder why your build doesn't have x265 support while someone else's does. You have 3 options: You could follow the instructions on the x265 wiki to build the standalone encoder.

2.61 OSX no longer has Quicktime RGBA or ProRes codec ...

    https://developer.blender.org/T29694
    * no support for other Quicktime codecs, especially ProRes 422 or ProRes 4444 It may be that FFMPEG can support both of these things, if it is compiled correctly. From reading other webpages on FFMPEG, it appears they may support more quicktime features if you specify --enable-gpl and --enable-version2, but I haven't built ffmpeg myself so not sure about that.

D1878 [MSVC / FFMPEG] FFMPEG 3.0 support. - Blender

    https://developer.blender.org/D1878
Mar 28, 2016 · FFMPEG 3.0 uses the inline keyword extensively while msvc still prefers to use __inline This patch defines it shortly before including the ffmpeg headers, and undefines it after it is done in an effort not to disturb any other code that deals with this issue in it's own way.
