Nov 17, 2013 · Yes the cat5 / cat5e can work in 1gbps for 100 meters but it also depends on your router or switch if it is capable of 1gbps as well. it will indicate 10/100/1000base-t in the ethernet port if you will see the box from your switch or router. Hope this helps.

Dec 18, 2003 · CAT5e support up to the Current 1 Gb/sec. The Giga Transfer is using the 4 pairs of the CAT cable as oppose to the 100Mb/sec. that uses only 2 pairs. Giga on current Desktops is ?castrated? running on a 32bit Bus as oppose to possible 64bits Bus. CAT6 is twisted pairs too (but twisted better); it can support more, but what is more?
