According to this article on Wikipedia, it should be fine if your Acer supports HDMI 1.3. HDMI 1.3 supports resolution 2560x1600 at 75Hz at 24 bits/pixel, and 60Hz at 30 bits/pixel. Sadly, it didn't work. Just because on part of the chain (HDMI 1.3) supports it does not mean it will work.

Jul 02, 2016 · No it works perfectly fine - HDMI 1.4 has sufficient bandwidth for 2560x1440 @ 60Hz - you may be thinking of 4K which it would only support at 30 Hz. You must log in or register to reply here....

Using this cable and a custom resolution means you can use one of those 1440p panels as an output device to a Lenovo Ideapad Y500, which only has HDMI as a digital output.

Will 2560x1440 display on the monitor correctly at the maximum HZ via an HDMI 1.4 cable? If not, I have a DVI-D to HDMI cable (as suggested here)- how can I know if I have a built in scaller?

The HDMI ports are still revision 1.4a so they cannot support 60Hz refresh rates at the monitor's native resolution, but DisplayPort will run at 3440x1440 at 60Hz without any issues, including audio support.
