Nov 02, 2012 · I have installed windows 8 on a computer. After installation I have used coreinfo to check whether there is (*) in front of NX, PAE and SSE2 or not. But I observed there was (-) in front of NX and PAE while (*) in front of SSE2. Now what does this mean. As you told if there is (*) then it means the system supports the bits.

So in order to install Windows 8 or Windows 10, the CPU on your machine needs to support the following features: - PAE or Physical Address Extension - NX (No eXecute bit) - SSE2. Now by default, most modern CPUs support these features and it’s not an issue. If you are getting this error, it’s mostly likely that NX is not enabled in your BIOS.

Jun 11, 2015 · As for NX bit, there's also the option to patch the installer and have it bypass that check. Folks on MDL did it with Win8. There's a good possibility MS left the NX software fallback code in place so you might not have any issues running on non-NX CPUs having bypassed the installer check.
