If they ask a court to decide, the court will use guidelines to determine child support payments. Some child support guidelines fall under federal law, while others are under provincial or territorial law.

The child support table for Ontario sets out the amount of monthly child support payments for Ontario on the basis of the annual income of the parent or spouse ordered to pay child support (the “support payor”) and the number of children for whom a table amount is payable.

There are two separate Acts that govern child support in Ontario, Canada.
