DDR4 ram is now price competitive with ddr3, so for a new build, it makes sense to me to go with DDR4. Most lga1151(aka skylake) motherboards will support ddr4 ram. Some will support low voltage(1.35v) ddr3 ram, but they tend to be basic budget motherboards.
