My DGL-4300 Router is gigabit, but doesn't support Jumbo Frames, so any device I wanted to use Jumbo Frames with I was going to run off the switch only. The Switch is a DLink DGS-2205, which supports Jumbo Frames "up to 9600" My Intel/Pro 1000 MT Adapters support Jumbo Frame Sizes of "4088, 9014 and 16128"

Mar 17, 2009 · I see no benefits to jumbo frames in a network that small. Jumbo frames are really meant for backbones and mainframe networks were the network core has move LARGE amounts of data in a single frame to lighten the load on the switch core.

Jun 03, 2008 · I am adding a DGS-2205 on the DGL-4300. The DGL-4300 does not support jumbo framing. I found how to do it in Fedora 7. Set MTU=9000 in a network file. I was expect closer to 70-80 MB/s. The Dlink DGS-2205 has a 10 Gbps fabric switch. I might put Intel server NICs in each workstation and server to match frame size. Any other suggestions?

With this chipset, jumbo frame support can be programmed to be on or off. But it's a factory-programmed option - probably via the Atmel 93C46 EEPROM shown in Figure 1 located between the other two chips. So this means that existing GS108's can't be field-upgraded.. Since the GS108 is a plain ol' unmanaged switch, there's nothing you need (or can) do to it to use jumbo frames.
