The message from Disk Utility is simply there to tell you it's checking the hidden EFI partition (if present) and updating as necessary. In your case it won't be necessary so nothing will be updated. Disk Utility performs this extra step if you run a disk repair on a parent disk rather than on one of the partitions within that disk.

Sep 12, 2009 · I just used Disk Utility to Repair Disk. It said that the volume appears to be OK. But then it added,"Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required." I've never seen that before. What does it mean? If i just do a Verify Disk, it says the disk appears to be OK but doesn't add the bit about boot support partitions.

Hard drive appears to be churning, off and on, slow & fast, etc. This has been going for quite a while, at least 45 mins. Do I just leave it be or stop it? Is it stuck?

Feb 03, 2018 · You misread the message. It actually says, "Updating Boot Support Partitions for the volume as required." All it means is that Disk Utility is doing some behind the scenes maintenance to keep bootable disks bootable, and you don't have to do anything.
