Nov 19, 2012 · [Recovered: Original post date June 24th 2012] I’ve been using my D-Link DNS-323 as a place to store backups in our apartment, but space has been getting a little tight. Hard drive prices haven’t come back down to their historic lows, but as 3TB (3TiB?) models can be found for $149 here in Toronto I decided to pick up a pair to use in the upgrade.

The DNS-323 does not support external discs, but a small hack allows you to use them on the unit anyway. Before you even try this, you need to have telnet access to your device.

Dec 16, 2011 · DNS-323 will wait to be assigned an IP address via DHCP. If it does not receive a DHCP assigned IP address, by default it will boot up with a self-assigned IP address of 192.168.0.32. Once you are able to see the NAS I would also check the firmware as you will need the latest available(v1.08) to be able to use 2Tb drives. joelk2

Is the largest capacity of drives that the DNS-323 able to support limited by the hardware itself? Or is the limitation a firmware thing, and modifications to the firmware can allow the DNS-323 to support larger drives that will come out over the next several years?
