Most SATA hard drives are compatible with DNS-323.. Below is a list of hard drives that had been tested successfully with the DNS-323 at the time of writing. Please note that firmware 1.01 is required to use hard drives with a capacity of 750 GB or more.

Hard drive prices haven’t come back down to their historic lows, but as 3TB (3TiB?) models can be found for $149 here in Toronto I decided to pick up a pair to use in the upgrade.

If you still cannot access the data on the disk, and the LEDshows amber light, the DNS-323 cannot recover the data. Power offthe DNS-323 and eject the disk (with the help from the lever on theback). Check for improvements if hard drive is inserted in theother drive bay.
