There's an exception here, Asrock released not long ago an AM3 motherboard supporting AM2+ processors, featuring both DDR2 and DDR3 slots, and it works really good despite the chipset chosen (nforce 600 with geforce 7000 series IGP).

I went and tried to see if buying an AM2 processor would be cheaper for you, it seams both tiger direct and newegg are only selling AM3. The number after AM is the amount of memory controllers the cpu has.

Jul 14, 2009 · It is also an AM3. I think I will have better luck with an AM2+ since I have Bios v3.2 and it recognizes my 7750. If it will recognize an AM3 without a Bios update, then I will get an AM3. I was hoping someone on here could tell me if they have done it with v3.2. Don't want to buy an AM3 and find out it will not work.
