HSRP is set up on the 7200's, so that when the serial link is lost, they failover, and failover is set up on the ASA's as well. This is the problem - When a serial link goes down on the 7200, it fails over, but because the ethernet interface is still up, the ASA's don't detect a problem and therefore don't failover.

Jun 27, 2016 · If we delete middle switch, there's a case that G0/2 on ASA Primary is down, ASA Secondary comes up, but the link between ASA Primary and CoreSW01 is still up. So, ip sla on CoreSW01 that track the it's G0/1 Interface is not down, so HSRP will not be triggered, and CoreSW01 is still be the Active one.

2960(S) HSRP support That is true just because it was left in the code doesn't mean its supported. I remember on some Cat 4500's with SupII pluses with ipbase software you could get BGP to work and peer with other devices but it was not supported .
