Jun 29, 2007 · coax and optical cant carry the high def audio on plain dts and dolby digital. With the 910 you can get the high def audio via the hdmi port but not with the 1200 as it cant handle pcm over hdme. the 910 doesnt have 7.1 analogue inputs but i think the 1200 has so you might get the high def audi using these, not 100% sure on that though.

HDMI 1.4 and above also officially supports: 3D video, ethernet over HDMI, ARC (see below), and 4k x 2k ultra-high resolution (which isn’t really available yet).

Jun 10, 2013 · HDMI supports 7.1 audio. Optical (or digital coax) only support 5.1. HD audio formats (like "lossless" Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD master) have a "core" lossy 5.1 audio stream that is used if optical cables are used, while the full HD audio is utilized if connected over HDMI).

May 13, 2010 · Optical will work too but HDMI will be simpler. If you have a blu-ray player is trying to output HD codecs you will likely hear nothing. Make sure you are outputting Dolby digital 5.1 or 7.1 (DD EX) or DTS 5.1 from the player.

Dec 22, 2007 · Both the optical cable and the digital coaxial have the ability to support true 5.1 surround sound. Out of the two, you want to use the fiber-optic cable. The digital coaxial is an older, analog connection. The fiber-optic cable is a light source, and is not interrupted by outside interferences.
