Oct 06, 2011 · If I understand Dell's numbering convention the 2450 is a 4th generation server with probably a Pentium III processor (500Mhz to 800Mhz) , where the 1850 is an 8th generation server, with probably a xenon 3.0GHz processor. If I had to choose I would pick the 1850, running vmware. I had vmware running on a 2850 without issue not too long ago.-geo

There are different types of virtualization -- VT-x, VT-d, etc. -- not all CPUs support all virtualization modes (and not all versions of Windows have the same support for virtualized OSes, if you're running Windows), so you must also consider the version of windows you have.

Re: Does the PowerEdge 2850 BIOS Support Virtualization Technology? It might be compatible with the socket, but it is not listed on ark.intel.com as compatible with the chipset found in the 2850 (let alone with the Dell BIOS), so the processor likely wouldn't work anyway.
