I want to run Hyper-V. Stock, the PowerEdge 2850 has a Xeon ___(What is the codename of this processor?)____. It is 8G and does not support VT-x in the processor, I need at least a 9G (I think?) that does support VT-x in the processor in order to use Hyper-V on Windows Server 2008.

Can the CPU on a Poweredge 2850 be upgraded to support Hyper-V? Just reclaimed a decent server by moving the OS onto a VM on another server. Sep 16, 2011 · The 2850 doesn't support Virtualization. The only 8th generation Dell server with the aility to use it is the PE6850R. The limitation is that the BIOS doesn't support VT (Virtualization Technology) which is why you see the VM staying in Start Up, but never starts.
