Note, however, that importing them into GIMP will result in the rasterization of the vector shapes (turning them into bitmap images).

Feb 05, 2012 · .ai files are Adobe Illustrator files. However if you open the .ai in Adobe Illustrator and save it as a .eps instead, then you can open that in GIMP. But GIMP will rasterise the image. GIMP is a raster image editor. Adobe Illustrator is a vector image editor - the two are completely different types of image editing applications.

XCF images take up a lot of disk space, and are not supported by most image viewers, which is why XCF is more suitable for saving images for future editing (rather than image exchange).

Dec 12, 2017 · As it was freeware and reputedly better than ViewNX/NX2 of Nikon, I was excited. Problem was that the ufraw read the .NEF files alright but the images were too dark. It seems that there is a problem with the colour profile used in GIMP - the right profile for .NEF does not exist and it is such a pain to figure out.
