Does the PowerEdge 2850 BIOS Support Virtualization Technology? Sorry to necro this thread, but it speaks directly to my issue. I too have a 2850 in which I've invested a lot of time and money and would like to solve this problem (no VT) with this device.

Dec 17, 2008 · Taking a Core-based Xeon 5100 and an 800MHz-FSB processor and doing a comparison you can see that the old Xeon (used in the 2850) doesn't offer VT. So if you want to run a 64-bit VM, you'll need to upgrade to a Poweredge 9th generation server (e.g. 2950).

The only Dell servers that currently support VT in the BIOS are the PE6800 and PE6850.

PE2850 II does not support VT-x either. I have two of them with dual Paxville dual cores. There are no processors for 2850 that will support VT-x. You will have to buy a 2950 or higher for that.
