Jan 08, 2013 · I came across many YouTube videos telling me that it is possible to save movies/video clips on to an external hard drive and view them on a PS3 if the file system is FAT32. I had a spare 2TB external hard drive so i thought i would give this a go however when i went to format it, the only other option apart from NTFS (Which apparently doesn't work) is exFAT.

E.g i have 2 external HDDS connected to my ps3 and other 2 to my ps4 So everytime i want to install a game, i need to remove one of the ps3 ones, make the disc dump, backup the hdd, format it to EXFAT, copy the game dump, hook it to the ps4 and install the pkg. ( ignoring the possibility to remote install) and reverse all of this to the ps3 again.

Apr 04, 2011 · not sure if exfat is compatible with ps3 or not but u can formatt it to fat32, using the software that came with the external HDD, im assuming its a transcend HDD 1 April 4th, 2011 #4

Jul 16, 2008 · Is the PlayStation 3 compatible with exFAT (FAT-64)? I am trying to upgrade my PlayStation 3's hard drive, but first I want to backup - so I got an external USB hard drive because the backup was going to be appx. 10GB.

ShadowSkill11 7 years ago#6. Instructions for replacing the hard drive are in your PS3 instruction manual in both digital and paper forms. You can also watch a 1001 videos on youtube for how to do it as well. eXFat is not the same thing as FAT32.

Since PS3 USB format should be the old "FAT32" while most of the modern new USB drives come with widely used "NTFS", users need first learn USB formatting for PS3.

Jul 05, 2009 · Upon reading it looks like the PS3 only currently reads FAT32. Which has a max single file limit of 4gb. Now my PC is currently running on Windows Vista x64 SP1. When formatting the drive I only can format to NTFS or exFAT. I was unfamiliar with exFAT so I tried it out, but my PS3 does not recognize the drive. So, I am kinda stuck right now.
