Jan 08, 2013 · Is the file system exFAT compatible with PS3? I came across many YouTube videos telling me that it is possible to save movies/video clips on to an external hard drive and view them on a PS3 if the file system is FAT32.

E.g i have 2 external HDDS connected to my ps3 and other 2 to my ps4 So everytime i want to install a game, i need to remove one of the ps3 ones, make the disc dump, backup the hdd, format it to EXFAT, copy the game dump, hook it to the ps4 and install the pkg. ( ignoring the possibility to remote install) and reverse all of this to the ps3 again.

Jul 26, 2015 · I chose exFAT and set the allocation unit size to default allocation size, formatted it, copied the movie over, plugged it into the PS3 same deal, didn't recognize it. It should be mentioned that on both thumb drives and the external HDD I created a folder in the root named video because I saw on a youtube video that is necessary.

I'm reformatting my biggest USB hard drive today. It seems like filesystem support for gaming systems is kind of in a bad place right now -- it looks like both the PS3 and the 360 both only support FAT or FAT32, but both those systems have a 4GB file size cap.
