Sep 04, 2012 · At this time, Sonos does not have plans to add support for high resolution audio files, including high resolution FLAC. This topic will remain open for further discussion. With respect User777223, people have been saying this for 7 years, and there's no sign of it happening.

Oct 11, 2017 · I've seen that before, as well, but that doesn't seem to be the issue, since the .m4a files (which Sonos plays) have exactly the same song titles as the FLAC files, which Sonos will not play. But thanks for the suggestion

May 05, 2015 · While this is still outside the official Sonos safety net (“Sonos supports FLAC files up to 16 bit / 44.1 kHz,” from their website) it does result in a lower data rate in the 1030 kbps range, and this roughly 33% reduction helps a lot in wireless robustness for either Wi-Fi or SonosNet.

Apr 30, 2017 · Audacity is free and you can convert a 24/96 FLAC file to a 16/48 FLAC file easily. Not as slick as dbPoweramp or Max (which is also free and can do things in batches). I wish that the Sonos player would just play the 24/96 file and convert it on the fly or preprocess the file prior to play.

Jan 14, 2014 · Sonos has indicated that their development focus is on streaming services and voice control. APE is also relatively resource-intensive to decode. Like all lossless formats there's no generational loss when converting from one format to another. Simply do a one-time batch conversion to FLAC and you'll be able to access all your music on Sonos.
