Apr 07, 2008 · I'm interested in setting up a Windows Home Server using 3x 400 GB SATA drives and I'm mostly interested in fully redundant storage. I know that WHS doesn't support RAID, so I'm wondering if it supports anything that is similar to RAID 5 so I only lose 1 hard drive worth of space but have everything else redundantly backed up.

Windows Home Server 2011 and RAID 5 - Windows Server ...

Nov 08, 2012 · RAID 5 is never a good solution. At best it is a waste of money. At worst it is like throwing your data away. Also, Windows RAID is considered the worst mainstream RAID around. It's not horrific, but it isn't impressive. Combining Windows software RAID with RAID 5 with cheap consumer SATA drives is a planned disaster.

Jul 25, 2011 · Unfortunately, as it turns out, I am running an Asus E35M-1 Pro mobo, which is a nice setup for low power and enough expansion slots, but despite having 5xSATA3, it does not have RAID. Hence to make my scheme work, I will need a hardware RAID-1 card that works with WHS 2011.

Yesterday I received my HP MediaSmart Windows Home Server in the mail. There's two versions, the 500gig and the 1TB.I've been using WHS since Beta2 and was ready to tidy up my Frankenserver, which was largely a DIY (Do It Yourself) and I'd been having some hard drives go belly up lately. Are you installing WHS 2008 or 2011? Keep in mind that the PERC does not support non-RAID, so unless you configure RAID BEFORE booting to the OS installation disk, the OS won't be able to see the hard drives even if you have the right drivers.

Raid 11? [H]ardForum

    https://hardforum.com/threads/raid-11.1411271/
Apr 19, 2009 · you said 2 disk losses?... how about regular RAID 6? I don't see any advantage to RAID 11 at all... How about raid 5 with a hotspare? That would basically allow you to have a disk rebuild immidiately if you lost one... any maybe even regular raid 1 with 2 hotspares... that is definetely an odd setup though so I wouldn't be surprised if you had a hard time finding a controller to support it.
