YouTube does support 5.1 and has quite a few videos with surround sound. ut also depends on what you are using. My PS4 APP YouTube won't work with surround but my Samsung TV YouTube app does. Of course the browser will work as well.

I have a Macbook and LG BH9540TW surround sound system. I am able to get 5.1 surround sound on some downloaded videos, which suggests that the speakers are properly configured and Macbook can provide 5.1 output to the LG system. But I tried youtube on Firefox, Chrome and Safari but there is no surround sound on the test videos.

Google's YouTube TV has chosen to be a bit cagey on this topic and not having he subject anywhere on their website or FAQs. The simple answer is no, they don't have surround sound and if you ask them directly on chat, will quickly tell you they are working on it.

Dec 06, 2016 · Okay, well, the new cables improved things all around. YouTube still only does 2.1. Seems to be a limitation. The other apps seem to be working as they should. I'm satisfied with the results and can accept the limitations. As a side note, the surround sound test app referenced in Jeff's article worked really good.
