Apr 26, 2007 · call a professional, that being said I would use 2x12 to span 102" although if you use 1/4" drywall which is lighter you 2x4s might work if you support them every 8" or so and you should install furring strips running perpendicular to the joist on 8" centers. you don't want your ceiling collapsing on your family do you ?
